Is This a Decent Deal?

We’ve taken our time with the TDI buyback waiting for a decent deal on a new (to us) car to come around. We’ve settled on wanting a Mk7 GTI and came across what’s basically my wife’s dream car. Heated cloth and night blue metallic exterior are the must haves.

I’ve talked the price down to about 21k. Does that seem reasonable? New, these can be picked up for around 24-25k, so I figure a 3-4k discount is worth one year less of warranty. Thoughts?

Looks like a pretty good deal to me. I’d say that 20-21K range is where you should be safe

A year ago I got mine 15% off of MSRP, plus very good trade-in value, so what you describe seems to be in the right area.

(Funny, I had all my numbers memorized for months after the deal, kind of surprising that I don’t remember anymore. Had to look back at an old GolfMk7.com post.)

Yeah, I know there are a few out there but nowhere within 500 miles of me. DSG is an $1,100 premium over the manual on MSRP. It’s also tough around me to find a new one without options. All the dealers seem to only stock the fully optioned 30k+ models.

Oh, I missed the fact that this was pre-owned. Need to work on my reading comprehension. With that in mind, I’d like to think that, with new ones 15% off, you should be able to get a lower price on this used one.

Been doing much of the same research as I wait for my buyback. For my area 21k is pretty fair. How many miles are on it?

10,000 miles. I just realized the link was Kinja-ed, hopefully it shows up now.

Was yours more loaded or was it pretty basic? I imagine they’ll give the 15% on MSRPs that are 30k+ but probably tighten up on the base model automatic that MSRPs at 27k. I wasn’t seeing anything new listed below 24k near me and don’t think I can talk them down much more below that.

Mine was pretty loaded, you may be right about the S not being discounted as much. You might get a current frame of reference by looking at the “post my deal” thread on golfmk7.com.

I seem to recall that when I bought mine people were getting between $3k and $4k off on the S models, so still comparable percentage, but I could be wrong.
